the laser rangefinder will display the targets range in yards, once you know that figure you can take the shot using the DOTS or lines in the scope to compensate up or down. apparently each mark in the scope represents a certain distance and using those along with the scopes known "zeroed" range you would calculate "bullet drop" and "hold-over"
that is my fundamentally basic understanding of scopes and range finding.
