RWS Scimitar Project

Postby magicniner on Mon Oct 18, 2010 10:37 pm

Hello again!
I have my leaky project gun resealed, refinished & up & running thanks in no small part to the information generously posted on this forum :D

I thought I'd share details of how I refinished the forestock and grip to match the butt.

1st sanding back the chipped & flaking paint to base plastic with 180 grit paper, then painting with an aerosol of Pro Tex Textured Coating for plastic parts & bumpers - using the funny looking red nozzle, applying one wet coat all over, leaving 10 minutes for it to dry enough for further light coats from about 10 inches to build the required texture.

Now I just have to decide what material to use for the grip inserts,

Nick

Good point Ian ;)
I didn't bother with before shots as the paintwork was extensively chipped & flaking on the forestock & grip, here are some shots of the the gun assembled with the re-finished parts, I've tried to get some shots that give an idea of the match in surface finish achieved, I'm rather pleased -

It wasn't until I just looked that I realised I've inadvertantly included my other Scimitar in one of the shots :D

AH! the Reliant Scimitar! - dont be put off by the 'Reliant' part folks ( :| http://storm.oldcarmanualproject.com/reliantrobin.htm)
The 'Scimitar' was a much more adventurous...endeavour!

Princess Anne had one (even 8-) )

It has to be said that Nicks' example needs some work putting-in :(

Excellent work on that stock (BTW) - I'll mention that to anyone looking to 'adapt' or tidy-up a Synthetic stock ;) .
