Filling/charging a Logun Solo (new owner)

Postby adez on Tue Sep 28, 2010 10:45 pm

Hello guys.
I am a new owner of a Logun Solo. I just wanted to ask about filling this gun.
I just bought a new probe (old one was knackered) and did a fill this evening - not that well.
There was a noticeable leaking sound (I think from the probe when inserted into the charging recess).
I hope that this was the rubber O rings or that I was going too fast with the air.
I see on the probe, that there is a hole to one side.
There is a corresponding hole inside the cylinder at the top of the gun.

Question:
Do you have to align these holes before filling the gun?
It seems very odd that there is no way of keeping the two holes aligned????
The probe rotates freely in the recess.
Should the probe automatically rotate to align with the hole inside the filler recess?
Also, what pressure should this gun be filled to please?

Apolgies if this sounds stupid. I have not owned one of these guns before.
My other guns have a much more direct snap-on connection (Air Arms quickfill).
I want to make sure i am doing things correctly and getting a good fill.

Thanks in advance.

Hiya

The probe should have enough thickness on the o-rings that it should 'squeeze' into the hole. It shouln't be a loose fit (air will leak out), and it shouldn't be a tight fit (too hard to insert and remove).
The O-rings will touch the inside of the fill hole, such that pressured air between them won't come out the filler hole.

The wee air hole in the probe, and the wee air hole in the cylinder do not need to be aligned, they won't align, you don't care if they do or not. The pressured air travels out the wee probe hole, around the probe (but staying between the o-rings), then into the cylinder hole.

If the probe is freely rotating, this could be an indication that the o-rings aren't sized correctly. Once in, I have to use a bit of grip on the probe to get it to rotate.
Also recommended is use of a tiny bit of silicone grease on the o-rings, for ease of insertion. Do not use petrochemical greases.

Most FX rifles recommend a fill of 200bar.

Check those o-rings. I think they should be silicon size 009

Hello Wyseyes.
Thanks for the explanation.
That makes sense and clears that one up for me then - thank you.
Obviously, the O rings on the probe I have are not doing the job.
It is quite easy to insert and to remove.
Any ideas where to get a new set of O rings please (and size needed)???
Thanks again for a clear explanation.
I have good quality silicone grease (Logun) that I used on the bolt action.
Cheers mate, atb.

Hi,
Give Deben a ring if you're in the UK (01394 387762).

I've just bought 6 of these 'O' rings and they are about 0.72p each and postage is about £3.60, so it's worth getting a few spare rings at the same time.

As you don't indicate where you are, and unless you're in New Zealand (like I am), then nope, can't help.
However, they aren't anything special, most engineering supplies stores have o-rings.
Silicone o-rings are preferred, however a simple black set will do the job until you can find better.
