OK, so not had the gun long enough to really say how it's doing, but spent an hour or so trying it out with JSB 4.52, & was getting about a half inch group at 30 yards, think I'll try some JSB 4.53s through it next weekend, I know that the other S/T barrels I've used have really tightened up when using them, so I'll give it a whirl.
Put the JSB 4.53 pellets through, & I'll be sticking to them - it was pellet on pellet at 35 yards & the grouping at 55 yards was just 3 pellet widths - 1/2" approx
It's a great feeling when you find a pellet that really suits your rifle. I've been very lucky with my last three rifles in that they all loved AA Field 4.52s.
4.51s were disappointing and gave me 2-inch groups at 30 yards. I'd picked up a tin by mistake from the gunsmiths when he accidentally mixed the sizes on the shelf. It wasn't until I looked at the base of the tin that I realized why the groups had opened so drastically. Never again!
It is, the older Typhoon which we've got will do that with the 4.52s (as will the Cyclone, they've both got L/W barrels), but in my testing, it seems like the .177 smooth twist barrels like that fraction bigger head size - often wonder what they'd be like with a 4.54 pellet.
Well, both the Typhoons took their first trophies this weekend (although only at local club level) & the wifes Vermy took a second place - considering that they were up against the likes of Styer, Daystate, EV2 etc. etc. Can't be bad! Made our sons day walking away with the shield.
Thanks, he's using the Walnut stocked one. I'm hoping that they'll leave their mark on several local competitions (I've been using the Cyclone as well - it surprised one shooter at the last meet ) Just getting fed up with all the people recommending AA as starter guns - my view is as that there are so many s/h, there must be something wrong
Had a bit of a nasty shock the other week, the older Typhoon snapped its valve pin, so had to have a new one fitted, while that was happening, we took the time to tweak the power up a tad, to 11.6, then it decides to shotgun with the previously good JSB 4.52, so a clean of the barrel, still no go, so I try pellet trials, ended up putting in a 15 mm edge to edge 10 shot group at 30 yards with Crosman boxed premiers 7.9 grain, think that we'll stick with them until the next power 'tweak'
Been playing again, but with different pellets this time, just to see if anything shaved the groups down by a mm or so. None did, but it gives 'interesting' results, as, on several forums, people are saying as to how sizes are a nonsense & that you can't believe what is on the tins. Edit Forgot to say, the black 'bull' is 26.6mm diameter, the groups were shot at 30 yards rested, each group was 10 shots.
