You should check out Rob lanes videos if you're thinking about putting a regulator in. I am still learning, but these videos are helpful in understanding the way the valve, hammer and hammer length balance up with the regulator pressure to get efficient shot strings. Quite fascinating, but also admit to falling asleep listening to it too. :D

So has anyone taken the outlet valve apart to change the spring?

Well I fitted the reg this weekend. Not without little hurdles though. Everything went well, but the regulator spacer tube has an O ring on one end to seal off against the the brass end cap. When I first took it apart I noticed that the finish on the end cap, where the reg seals against, was not smooth, but had turning machine marks on it. Of course there is nothing wrong with this, but it wouldn't seal. :o  I'm glad that part is brass, because I was able to polish it by wrapping the end of a piece of conduit with 600 grit wet and dry, and this would fit down onto this surface to smooth the machine marks off. :D It worked!
Now after watching Robs You tube videos I started checking the FPS, and it was a bit faster than I wanted. I had swapped over the valve spring, but needed to put in both spacers effectively increasing that tension, which resulted in lowering the FPS.
I now have a 12 fpe Cyclone on mid setting. I shot at some leaves on a tree about 45 m away, and was able to get the whole mag onto one leaf, with the group being about 30mm I would guess, so i'm happy.
Next, once I get some lights sorted for my chrony I will check the shot string. For now I will fill it and check it tomorrow to make sure it doesn't leak.

Never had any problems of venting sounds from the Lane's regulator in my .177 Logun Solo (FX Typhoon). Quiet as a mouse and at least 85 consistent shots at 12 ft/lbs

my gun is FAC 30ftlbs
